My depression is getting worse again. I can't tell how much is from hating my job, how much is from being lonely at home, how much from vitamin-D deficiency, how much from the ridiculous "lockdown", and even how much has become self reinforcing because I am too depressed to do things to deal with my depression. I am too depressed to train properly, and then I get more depressed because I am not exercising, and more depressed again when I realise I am not training properly. Normally I can work my way out of that by taking a few days and doing other things instead, going to the cinema, visiting my granny, just having a bit of a break, but all those things are banned at the minute. I didn't even manage 100,000 steps this week, that is the first time this year. I also averaged less than 8 active hours a day for the first time this year.
I managed a swim in the river Don last week and then having received and assembled my new pool I managed to get my first swim in it today. I only lasted a minute in the cold, but I think a couple of days of warmer weather coming in the middle of the week will be enough to get me up to a more serious session. For now I am going to just try and add a minute each day if I can. The distances aren't accurately measured so I have taken a guess at 2min / 100m pace for the tethered swimming in the pool just for the sake of having a number.
I haven't even done the bare minimum on the bike again and now my run numbers for the year have passed my bike numbers.
I have done more running than my target numbers, double in fact, but that isn't actually saying much. I have had to find a new schedule to deal with my depression and that basically means that Mon-Fri I have two hours between work and dinner to try and fit in a run and a bike and all the associated changing. And if work runs over that time gets less and something has to give and the run gets shorter or the bike gets skipped.
Having said that, I have kept my run-every-day streak going and I am through 500 miles, and I am putting in 42-44 min 10k runs every week in my training gear and not even going full gas. Any previous year I would have taken those in races and not been too upset.
Within my new schedule I am getting through a lot more of the small sessions in the evenings. I am still behind but catching up.
